Best season: fall. Fall offers the best combination of crisp weather, dramatic foliage, and lower crowds—daytime highs typically range from the low 50s to mid 60s °F (10–18°C) with cool nights in the 30s–40s °F (0–8°C). Trails are dry and comfortable after late-summer drying, and the forest around Opal Creek turns vivid, making waterfall hikes and photography especially rewarding. Weekday and late-season weekends tend to be quieter than summer, though check for early rain events that can make trails slick. Peak months: October, September, May, June Avoid: December, January
Fall is noted as the sweet spot: vivid foliage and drier, quieter trails.
