Best Time to Camp at Sandy River Shore A,B,C Natural Crup Campground

The rivers here follow their own calendar, swelling with spring snowmelt and settling into late-summer calm. This dynamic rhythm means the landscape you visit in June may look entirely different in October, with sandbars emerging and disappearing, channels shifting course, and water levels rising dramatically during storm season. Always check current river conditions and access status before your visit—the Sandy and Columbia wait for no one, and what's a peaceful bank one month might be underwater the next.

About Sandy River Shore A,B,C Natural Crup Campground

Where the Sandy River flows into the mighty Columbia near Troutdale, this 50-acre natural sanctuary offers a rare glimpse of river delta wilderness at the edge of the Thousand Acres recreation area. Note that restoration work and seasonal safety concerns have temporarily limited access to some state-owned sections of this ecologically sensitive landscape.
DSL notes the site has been the location of long-term, unauthorized overnight camping by people experiencing homelessness but is not suitable for habitation; DSL has closed the state-owned lands and begun enforcement and cleanup. The site is being managed for restoration rather than as a designated campground.
