Rainy Lake Campground, Mt. Hood National Forest
Hikers and paddlers who want a small, quiet base for the Mark O. Hatfield Wilderness trails or non-motorized time on Rainy Lake. Dual-sport riders have made it work, but high-clearance trucks or SUVs are the safer call on that access road.
No potable water on-site means hauling everything in, and the outhouse condition has frustrated multiple reviewers. The campground is also temporarily closed, confirm it's reopened before making any plans around it.

Summer delivers the most reliable conditions, with daytime highs in the 60s to mid-70s°F and nights dropping into the 30s and 40s. Roads and trails stay clear of snow during these months, making the lake fully accessible for fishing and boating. Spring and fall bring snow that can block the access road. Winter buries the area completely. Weekdays see lighter use than weekends if you want fewer neighbors.
Summer noted as most reliable: clear roads/trails and comfortable daytime temps in 60s–70s°F.
