Natural Features and SceneryThe campground sits in a basin carved by ancient glaciers, ringed by lodgepole pines, mountain hemlock, fir, and spruce. Crescent Lake's blue-green water spreads out from the site, backed by the Cascade Range to the west. Evidence of the area's volcanic past shows up in cinder cones rising through the forest, old calderas, and frozen lava flows. The moraine dam that shapes the lake is itself a remnant of ice-age geology. It's a landscape built by fire and ice over thousands of years.
