Boaters counting on a functioning ramp should verify conditions first, the ramp reportedly no longer reaches the water in low years. Verizon users also get zero coverage here, and spring and winter seasonal closures can catch first-timers off guard.

Summer brings the best conditions for water recreation, with daytime highs in the mid-60s to low 80s and cool nights in the 40s to 50s. July and August see afternoon monsoon storms. Boat ramps and marinas are most reliably open during these months, though water levels vary year to year. Winter temperatures drop to 11°F at night and reach only 36°F during the day, with occasional snow dusting the mesas. Winds can blow dust across the campground at any time of year.
Summer is best for water recreation with mild days; watch for afternoon monsoons and variable water.
