Overview

Sibley Lake Campground is located just off U.S. Highway 14, the Bighorn Scenic Byway, It is the only Bighorn National Forest campground that offers some electrical hookups. Fishing opportunities abound in nearby Sibley Lake and numerous streams.

About the campground

The elevation is 7,900 ft. The campground is near Sibley Lake and is composed of two loops in a grove of Lodgepole pines. One loop has electric hookups. The Lodgepoles provide lots of shade but the grass understory provides minimal privacy between sites. Medicine Wheel, a National Historic Site, Bald Mountain City Historic Site, and the Burgess Junction Visitor Center, are nearby for interesting day trips. Sibley Lake was constructed by Camp 853 of the Civilian Conservation Corps (CCC) during 1937. The lake was named for Lt. Sibley, leader of a cavalry scouting party which was attacked on July 7, 1876 by Sioux and Cheyenne Indians. Lt. Sibley and his troop of 26 men and a news reporter survived and returned to their main camp.
