Cascade Campground sits in a forested canyon along the Clark Fork River, 13 miles from Plains. The small Forest Service site has 11 individual sites plus one group site, all first-come, first-serve. A short trail leads to nearby Cascade Falls, and the Iron Mountain trailhead starts from the campground.

Weather and SeasonsBest season: summer. Summer brings the warmest, most reliable weather (daytime highs typically in the mid-70s to mid-80s °F, nights in the mid-40s to mid-50s) and the lowest odds of road closures, making it ideal for riverside camping. Water activities — fishing the Clark Fork, launching small boats or kayaks, and cooling off near Cascade Falls — are at their peak, and trails (including the Iron Mountain trailhead) are fully accessible. The Clark Fork River flows across the highway from camp, accessible for fishing and launching small boats. Cascade Falls is a short hike from the campground, with views from the top. The canyon walls show layers of bedrock carved over thousands of years. Highway noise is present but the forest cover is dense.
