Go if

Anglers, floaters, and hikers who don't need hookups will find everything here: fishing the Clark Fork, launching small boats from the primitive ramp across the highway, and a short hike up to Cascade Falls with views at the top. Weekdays in summer you'll likely snag a site.

Skip if

Bears are a real and recurring presence, with multiple reviewers reporting sightings including a mom with cubs. If that genuinely worries you, or if highway noise at night will keep you up, this canyon-bottom layout won't change either of those facts.

Overview

This campground is located in the canyon bottom along the Clark Fork River. The site is adjacent to the highway and across the road from the river, and forested with Douglas-fir, ponderosa pine and western larch providing abundant shade. Fishing opportunities are available at the river. The Iron Mountain Trail #242, historic wagon road, terminus is in the campground.
