Go if

Tent campers after genuine solitude on a tight budget will find this hard to beat midweek in July or August. Wise River is right there for trout fishing, nights drop into the 30s so pack layers, and the five-site limit means you're rarely crowded.

Skip if

Trailers over 28 feet won't fit, and the hand-pump water has drawn complaints about a rusty iron taste, so bring your own drinking water. No garbage service means every scrap comes home with you, and there are no formal trails if hiking is the main draw.

Overview

Little Joe Campground is accessed via the Pioneer Mountains Scenic Byway, with awesome views of the surrounding mountain peaks, valleys, and forests. This is a small, quiet campground with 5 camping units, a picnic day-use area, ADA accessible vault toilet, and water. It does not have garbage services, so pack out what you pack in. Wise River runs nearby and provides easy access for fishing but there is not a boat ramp at this site.
