Group Camp sits within Frontenac State Park's bluffland terrain where Lake Pepin widens the Mississippi River. The 58-site facility handles tent and group camping in a landscape of prairie openings, floodplain forest, and upland hardwoods. WiFi and electric hookups are available.
The park has 58 drive-in campsites (19 electric), six cart-in sites, two backpack sites, and a group camp. All campsites are 100% reservable.
Weather and SeasonsFall offers the most striking combination of color and bird migration. Expect crisp days averaging 45–65°F and clear light that makes the limestone bluffs and Lake Pepin shores glow. Autumn migrants funnel through the Mississippi flyway and woodland edges, and hiking the bluff overlooks at this time delivers peak wildlife viewing and dramatic foliage. Crowds are moderate; weekends can be busy in late September. Summer brings swimming and boating on Lake Pepin. Winter opens cross-country skiing and sledding on the park's dedicated sliding hill. The park is open daily from 8 a.m. to 10 p.m.; check trail and snow conditions before winter trips.
Natural Features and SceneryLimestone bluffs rise sharply above Lake Pepin, framing overlooks of the river and forested ridges. Below, the terrain shifts between restored prairie, dense floodplain bottomland along the water, and upland hardwood stands on the hillsides. This mix of habitats draws over 260 bird species and supports whitetail deer, warblers, raptors, and waterfowl year-round.
