Scout troops, family reunions, or paddling clubs who can reserve early and sleep 24 in shared bunkhouses. The beach access, 20-plus miles of trails, and genuine dark skies for stargazing are the payoff for going without showers or hookups.
Any group expecting private sites, electric hookups, or hot showers will find the infrastructure too bare. Vault toilets and bunkhouse-style sleeping are the whole amenity package, and there's no RV accommodation at all.

Summer brings the warmest conditions for swimming and group use of the bunkhouses. Daytime highs typically reach the mid-60s to mid-70s°F, with evenings cooling into the 40s and 50s. Lake breezes keep afternoons comfortable but can make campfire nights feel much cooler than expected. Pack extra layers for sunset beach walks. Water activities, beachcombing, and dune hiking peak in summer, but busy weekends mean you'll need to reserve the group site well ahead. The darker skies and stable weather make this the best season for stargazing.
Summer is warmest for swimming and group use; day highs mid-60s to mid-70s °F.
