Historical Significance
The campground and lake were officially renamed in 2023.Weather and SeasonsSummer brings the most comfortable camping, with daytime highs in the mid-60s to mid-70s°F and cool nights in the mid-40s to mid-50s°F. Long daylight hours make it easy to fish late or paddle after dinner. July and August weekends see moderate traffic, so the campground's small size means popular sites fill quickly. Fishing stays excellent year-round. Winter sees use from ice anglers, though snowpack and silence replace the loons.
Natural Features and SceneryThe campground occupies wooded shoreline on Mino-kwezenhs zaagigan, a small lake ringed by mixed northwoods forest at 1,526 feet elevation. Mature hardwoods and conifers shade most sites. The lake itself is calm and scenic, with loons and waterfowl common in warmer months. Deer move through the woods regularly. The boat launch shoreline is rocky, so wading barefoot is uncomfortable. Some sites sit closer to the water and offer views or dock access.
