Swan Lake (52 acres) is the most popular lake in the primitive campsite program, so getting a permit to camp can be quite competitive! All four campsites are located on the non-motorized Pine Marten Run Trail, which is open to hiking, mountain biking and horse back riding. There are three primitive toilets available, but no drinking water. All campsites on Swan Lake have excellent swimming areas. Swan Lake offers a good fishery for large and smallmouth bass, bluegills and pumpkinseeds.

Best season: fall. Fall offers the most striking experience at Swan Lake — the hardwoods explode into golds, crimsons and oranges while daytime temps are crisp and comfortable (roughly 45–65°F in September, cooling toward 30–50°F in early October). Water levels are lower and the bugs are gone, making hiking, wildlife viewing and shoreline photography at their peak while crowds thin out compared with midsummer. Campsite season is open through early October, so plan for late September–early October to catch peak fol Peak months: September, August, July, June Avoid: November, December, January, February
Late Sept–early Oct brings peak fall color; reviewers praised fall foliage.

The Swan Lake Campsites offer a rustic camping experience in a serene, forested environment with few amenities. The campground has three primitive toilets located at sites 1, 2, and between sites 3 and 4. However, there is no drinking water available, and visitors must adhere to a pack-in, pack-out policy. "Visitors will need to remember to bring their own drinking water as none is provided," according to the official forest description. Fire pits and grills are available for use, along with horse hitching posts at some sites. "You are welcome to collect firewood from the area surrounding your campsite. Just remember that any firewood that you collect must be DEAD AND DOWN," according to official rules. Picnic tables are reportedly available at each campsite. While the facilities are functional, user reviews often highlight issues such as logging debris on access roads and ineffective manure management for horse campers.
