Large RVs routed via the south end of Catoctin Hollow Rd will have a bad time on the narrow roads; GPS often sends rigs that way, so take MD-77W instead or plan on a stressful arrival.

Summer is the best time to visit. Daytime highs run mid-70s to mid-80s°F (24–30°C), nights drop to the 50s–60s°F (10–18°C). Water levels are good for viewing the falls, and the lake's roped swimming area is fully open. Expect crowds on weekends, so reserve early. Bugs are common, so bring spray. Shaded loops stay cooler than open sites on hot days.
Overview notes summer is best; guarded swimming, good temps and active waterfall viewing.
