The non-refundable $35 reservation fee and no-cancellation policy are real risks if plans change. Pets are a hard no, and the dispersed sites elsewhere in the area have zero water or toilets, so tent campers expecting basic facilities will be disappointed.
Compare with similar sites, watch availability, and build a packing list — Camp Sage handles all of it.
Fall brings the best conditions: daytime highs between 55 and 75°F, mornings down to 35–50°F, low humidity. Migratory birds pass through in October when prairie grasses show color and trout fishing picks up as water cools. Bugs drop off and crowds stay light compared to summer. Spring offers wildflower blooms and mild temps. Summer gets humid. Winter can be extreme and draws hunters looking for solitude.
Fall called 'best conditions' with migratory birds and colorful prairie grasses.

The Mined Land Wildlife Area offers deluxe cabin accommodations rather than traditional campsites. Each cabin features modern amenities including a full-size bed, a futon, a twin-size Murphy bed, and a bathroom with a large walk-in shower. Kitchens are fully equipped with a stove, refrigerator, microwave, coffee maker, and basic kitchen tools. Outdoor amenities include a fire ring, barbecue grill, and picnic table. The cabins are ADA-accessible and open year-round. "You will find additional sleeping accommodations in the front room," as detailed in the official documentation. The area allows for great year-round trout fishing and is surrounded by over 14,000 acres of public land.
