Best season: fall. Fall offers the best combination of comfortable weather, dramatic mountain color, and very low insect pressure — days are typically crisp and clear (about 45–65°F) with cool, campfire-friendly nights (near or below freezing by October). Fishing and wildlife viewing are at their peak as fish feed actively and elk/deer move into lower elevations; hiking is excellent without summer heat or buggy conditions. With only 12 sites, crowds remain modest compared with low-elevation lakes, but expect a bit Peak months: September, October, August, July Avoid: December, January, February
Fall recommended: crisp days, cool nights, almost no bugs and attractive foliage; reviewers favor Sep/Oct.
