Campground accommodates tents, trailers, and RVs (sites and some pull-throughs suitable for rigs up to about 55 feet) and includes designated equestrian campsites.
Historical Significance
The park and its terrain were created through phosphate mining and subsequent reclamation; the resulting mine spoil and landform changes produce the park’s uncharacteristic hills for central Florida and underpin its popularity for mountain biking and trail development.Weather and SeasonsPlan your visit between late fall and early spring to experience Alafia at its finest—mild temperatures and lower humidity make these months ideal for tackling the trails and enjoying evenings by the campfire. Summer adventures are certainly possible, but come prepared: the heat, humidity, and mosquitoes are as bold as the terrain, so pack plenty of water, insect repellent, and your sense of humor.
Natural Features and SceneryForget everything you think you know about flat Florida. Here, dramatic ridges and valleys create a landscape unlike anywhere else in the state, where pine flatwoods give way to shaded hardwood forests and tranquil wetlands. The South Prong of the Alafia River winds through the terrain alongside hidden lakes, offering surprising vistas at every turn. Twenty miles of trails weave through these diverse habitats, taking you from sun-dappled ridgetops down to peaceful water's edge, where the only sounds are birdsong and rustling leaves.
