No potable water on-site is a real logistical ask, not a minor footnote. If your group can't reliably pack in enough water for the whole stay, the 9,000-foot elevation makes that miscalculation worse.

Summer is the reliable window here. Expect daytime highs of 60-75°F and nights dropping into the 30s and 40s from late June through August. Afternoon thunderstorms are common, so plan shorter weather windows for hikes or rides. The traditional season runs late May to early October, though snow conditions sometimes push opening or closing dates. Winter brings deep snow and freezing temperatures that close the campground entirely. Weekends and holidays fill the six sites quickly despite the modest crowds, so arrive early or midweek if possible.
