<p>Quartz Campground lies west of the Sawatch Mountain Range in the southern part of the mineral belt that extends north to Leadville, CO. It is a popular area for four-wheel driving. Most of the roads, that are used for recreation today, were created by mine owners over 100 years ago. Quartz Campground lies on Cumberland Pass Road, which is improved dirt and usually passable by two-wheel drive vehicles. There are 10 campsites.</p>
The elevation is 9,800 ft. The campground is nicely wooded with a mixture of conifers including Lodgepole and spruce above the North Quartz Creek. One site may be occupied by a host. Exploring the nearby town of Pitkin is a good day trip. Gunnison National Forest 199

The parking aprons are dirt and gravel and the interior road is rough.
From Pitkin, CO, take Forest Rt. 765 (dirt) 3.4 miles to campground sign. Turn right at sign into campground.

Best season: summer. Summer offers the most reliable access and the most comfortable weather at this high-elevation campground—expect sunny days with highs typically in the mid-60s to mid-70s°F and cool nights in the low 30s to mid-40s°F. Trails, vistas, and the geological features are fully accessible and wildflower meadows are at their peak, making hiking and photography ideal. Daytime warmth and long daylight hours also reduce the chance of snow-related closures, though afternoon thunderstorms and strong sun at 9 Peak months: July, August, September, June Avoid: December, January, February
