Weekend trips in summer will likely land you next to a party crew with fireworks and a trash problem. No potable water, no picnic tables at every site, vault toilets that reviewers consistently describe as foul, and a road that turns impassable in rain.
Compare with similar sites, watch availability, and build a packing list — Camp Sage handles all of it.
Spring delivers the best conditions, with temperatures around 50-65°F and fewer crowds than summer weekends. Mornings start foggy and cool, usually clearing by late afternoon. Wildflowers bloom across the coastal prairies, and migrating whales pass close to shore. Winter storms from November through May bring rain and temperatures between 35-55°F, but also churn up the best garnet-speckled sand for beachcombing. Summer sees comfortable highs between 45-75°F, though morning fog lingers and crowds increase dramatically on weekends.
Spring called out as best: 50–65°F, fewer crowds, wildflowers and clearing morning fog.

Usal Beach Campground offers primitive camping within Sinkyone Wilderness State Park, featuring dispersed campsites in a meadow area near the beach. Amenities are minimal, with no potable water or trash facilities. Visitors must bring their own water and pack out all trash. Pit toilets are available, but reviews commonly describe them as unclean and unpleasant. Multiple user reviews highlight the lack of picnic tables and fire rings at all campsites; some sites have fire pits, but campers are often required to create their own. Firewood is not provided on-site, and visitors must bring it themselves.
