Fall offers the best balance of comfortable temperatures (daytime highs typically 60–80°F, nights 35–50°F), lower crowds after Labor Day, and excellent trail conditions for OHV riding, hiking, and biking. Reservoir levels and clearer air often make wildlife viewing and photography especially rewarding, and the cooler weather keeps heat stress and dust down on exposed routes. Shasta Campground offers 27 tent/trailer campsites located near the Chappie-Shasta OHV Recreation Area. The campground is accessible year-round. It features basic amenities such as picnic tables, fire pits, and a paved loop road connecting sites. The accessibility features include a designated accessible campsite (site 22) with hardened-ground surface, extended-top picnic table, accessible fire ring, and proximity to an accessible double vault toilet. Additionally, the day-use area has picnic tables, accessible parking spots, and bear-proof trash receptacles.
