Mid-summer heat regularly pushes past 90°F with patchy shade from scattered oaks, and late-season low water can close the boat ramp. If a cool, shaded tent camp is the goal, the foothills in August will disappoint.

Best season: summer. Summer is prime for lake-centered recreation — expect long, sunny days and warm water ideal for boating, kayaking, and swimming. Daytime highs commonly run mid-80s to near 100°F at 700 ft elevation (evenings cool into the 50s–60s), so early-morning or late-afternoon paddles and fishing trips are most productive. Note that summer brings higher crowds on weekends and holiday periods, and fire restrictions or lower late‑season water levels can affect access to boat ramps. Peak months: June, May, September, October
