No electric hookups and a 35-foot RV limit rules this out for larger rigs. At 9,000 feet, spring arrivals before late May will still get freezing mornings and potentially frosty ground, so the season window is shorter than it looks on paper.

This large campground with 133 campsites is located along Rock Creek. Many of the sites are under tall trees, some sites along the creek.

The elevation is 8,900 ft. The campground has four unnamed loops stretching along Rock Creek - some camp sites are adjacent to the creek. The camp sites are either tucked in among Aspen and have great privacy but no shade or are nestled in among mature Lodgepole pine with tons of shade and no privacy. A number of parking aprons have an irregular surface mainly because of holes dug by a camper to level their RV. Rock Creek slows next to campground providing Inyo National Forest 100 some quiet places. Firewood provided for a fee. Bear-proof food containers available at some camp sites. This is bear country; practice safe food storage techniques. "Possessing/storing food so bears/wild animals have access will result in a fine of at least $150."
Open May 12 through October 16
The bathrooms are heated.
The parking aprons are loose gravel and sand. Fill up with potable water near site #56. An RV waste station, with no potable water, is located across from French Camp campground.
From Mammoth Lakes, CA, take State Rt. 203 east 0.9 miles to US Rt. 395. Bear right onto Rt. 395 (south) to Bishop and go 15.2 miles to Tom's Place sign. Turn right after sign onto Rock Creek Rd and go 6 miles to campground sign. Turn left into campground.

Fall delivers the best mix of conditions here: daytime highs around 45–65°F, crisp nights near or below freezing, and peak aspen color late September through October. Trails are dry and stable after snowmelt but before winter storms, and weekday crowds thin out compared to summer. Summer brings comfortable temperatures and clear skies. Winter means snow and cold. Spring stays frosty well into May, with mornings that can still bring frost to the ground.
Described as best season: peak aspen color late Sept–Oct and stable trails.
