About Northwind Campground

Northwind Campground sits in the mid-elevation forest of Eldorado National Forest, near Placerville in the Sierra Nevada foothills. Operated by the Forest Service, this campground offers tent and RV sites with access to hiking, fishing, swimming, biking, and boating. Natural Features and SceneryThe campground occupies a pocket of alpine forest in the central Sierra Nevada, surrounded by granite formations and thick stands of Jeffrey pine, Douglas fir, and incense cedar. Morning fog often settles through the trees before midday sun filters through the canopy. The landscape here formed over millions of years through volcanic activity and glacial carving, leaving the granite domes and ridgelines that characterize this stretch of the Range of Light.
