Best season: fall. Fall delivers the prettiest scenery and the most comfortable conditions — expect crisp, clear days and brilliant aspen and oak color that peak here in September and October. Daytime highs are commonly in the 50s–70s°F with chilly nights in the mid-20s–40s°F, so hiking and photography are at their peak while bugs are minimal and crowds thin compared with summer. Weekends can still draw local visitors, but overall you’ll find more solitude and excellent stargazing after the trees turn gold. Peak months: September, October, July, August Avoid: December, January, February
