Best season: spring. Spring offers the best combination of mild weather, wildflower displays, and trail access—daytime highs are typically in the 50s–70s°F (10–21°C) with chilly nights dipping into the 30s–40s°F (0–5°C). Hiking, wildlife viewing, photography of exposed rock strata and blooming meadows are at their peak, and trails are usually less crowded than summer weekends. Expect some muddy sections or late snow at 5,381 ft early in the season, so bring layered clothing and traction for steep or wet trails. Peak months: May, June, July, September Avoid: December, January, February
Spring cited as best: highs 50s–70s, wildflowers and lighter trail traffic.
