West Campground sits on the shore of Patagonia Lake at 4,000 feet in southern Arizona's high desert. Sites include picnic tables, fire rings, electrical hookups (20/30 and 50 amp), and dual-vehicle parking. The campground offers a marina, boat rentals, and a swimming beach, with quiet hours enforced from 9:00 p.m. to 8:00 a.m.
Patagonia Lake State Park offers developed RV/tent campsites (including some electric sites), two non-electric campsites, 12 boat-in sites, and seven camping cabins.
Weather and SeasonsFall (October through November) brings the most comfortable conditions, with daytime highs between 65 and 80°F and nights in the 40s and 50s. Migratory birds are active, and late-season color shows in the cottonwoods. Summer is extremely hot, and the lake becomes the primary draw. Winter offers crisp days in the 50s, good for birding and hiking. Spring adds wildflowers to the hillsides. The 4,000-foot elevation moderates temperatures compared to lower desert areas, but summer heat is still intense.
Natural Features and SceneryThe campground overlooks Patagonia Lake, a desert reservoir framed by rolling hills and dotted with cottonwoods and riparian vegetation along the shore. Over 300 bird species have been recorded here, making it a known birding destination. Trails wind through terrain where white-tailed deer, coatimundi, herons, and hawks appear regularly. Some sites offer direct water views. The wooded areas provide shade, though spacing between sites is tight in parts of the campground.
