East Campground sits on a bluff above the Little Colorado River at 4,895 feet, minutes from I-40 and the Homolovi ruins. The campground offers both pull-through and back-in sites, most with electric hookups (30 or 50 amp), plus showers and a dump station. Water is shut off at individual sites seasonally. Through March 14, 2026, you'll need to top off at the dump station.
RV and tent campground with both back-in and pull-through sites; ten tent pads; most sites offer hookups. 14-night camping limit.
Weather and SeasonsFall brings the most comfortable conditions: daytime highs in the mid-50s to mid-70s, nights dropping into the 30s and 40s. Monsoons have passed, the riparian areas below show late color, and bird activity picks up. Spring is windy. Expect gusts strong enough to matter for tent setup and awning decisions. Summer heat is manageable at this elevation but exposed sites offer zero shade. Winter is feasible if you bring your own water and don't mind occasional road closures.
Natural Features and SceneryThe bluff-top setting delivers wide views across northern Arizona's high desert to distant mountains. It's desolate country. Minimal vegetation, big skies, earth-toned geology stretching to the horizon. The Little Colorado River cuts through the valley below. Sunrise and sunset light up the plateau in ways that justify the lack of shade. Wild burros and horses wander the park. The openness means you see weather coming from miles away.
