Perched atop Rich Mountain's summit ridge, Queen Wilhelmina Campground delivers the rare experience of ridge-top camping where you can wake above the clouds. Both RV and tent campers enjoy immediate access to the historic park lodge, scenic overlooks along the legendary Talimena National Scenic Byway, and trails that wind through the Ouachita Mountains' highest reaches.
Approximately 41 developed campsites including Class A (50‑amp) and Class B (30‑amp) RV sites with electric and water hookups, several tent sites with water, and one hike‑in tent site. There are no sewer hookups at campsites (dump station available at entrance).
Historical Significance
The park and campground are sited at a historic mountaintop resort area with the park lodge and the historic Wonder House as cultural attractions. The location along the Talimena National Scenic Byway links the site to a long-used ridge travel corridor and regional recreational history.Weather and SeasonsPack an extra layer—this mountaintop climate runs 10-15 degrees cooler than the valleys below and catches winds that keep the air fresh and dynamic. Fall through spring brings those picture-perfect crisp days with crystalline visibility stretching for miles, while summer cloaks the mountains in deep green, though occasional haze can soften the views. Winter visitors should be prepared for the possibility of ice or snow on the ridge road, but those who make the journey are often rewarded with a frosted wonderland few others experience.
Natural Features and SceneryYour campsite sits at one of Arkansas's most dramatic elevations, where Rich Mountain's summit ridge stretches through dense pine and hardwood forests that roll across ancient Ouachita ridges. The mountaintop position creates something magical: mornings when you'll find yourself above a sea of clouds filling the valleys below, and evenings when the sunset ignites entire horizons. The cooler, moisture-rich air at this elevation often wraps the ridge in atmospheric fog that transforms ordinary moments into something ethereal, while clear days reward you with layer upon layer of forested ridges fading into the distance.
