Best season: summer. Summer offers the best combination of mild weather, long daylight, and navigable tidal windows — daytime highs typically range from about 50–65°F (10–18°C) with the driest stretches between June and August. This is peak time for boating and paddling the delta’s shifting channels, abundant wildlife viewing (including nesting shorebirds and marine mammals), and wildflower displays along the flats. Crowds remain low compared with road-accessed parks, but you will see the most boat traffic and other Peak months: July, August, June, September Avoid: December, January, February

Koknuk Cabin, located in the fringe between tide flats and alder and willow trees, offers a unique wilderness experience. The 12-by-14 pan-abode cabin includes two single and two double bunks, a table and benches, a broom, an oil stove for heat, and an outhouse toilet. Guests must bring amenities such as No.1 stove oil, water, sleeping bags, cookware, and garbage bags. "Water and electricity are not provided," and guests are responsible for treating water from rainwater catchment systems if used. Trash must be packed out, and the cabin cleaned before departure. There is a wooden cooler box attached for food storage.
