Best season: winter. Winter offers the most unique experience here — deep, stable snowpack and long nights of clear, dark skies make the area ideal for cross-country skiing, snowmachining, dog mushing and spectacular aurora viewing. Temperatures commonly range from about -10°F to -30°F (-23°C to -34°C) through the core of winter, with the coldest periods being the most remote and pristine; cabins function as dependable waypoints and warm shelter along prepared winter trails. Crowds are very low compared with summer, Peak months: March, February, December, January
Winter is the prime season: stable snowpack, maintained trails and excellent aurora viewing noted by many visitors.
