Best season: fall. Fall offers the best combination of crisp, clear weather and spectacular alpine meadow and aspen color — expect daytime highs in the 45–60°F (7–15°C) range and nighttime lows that often dip near or below freezing (20s–30s°F). Hiking, photography, wildlife viewing and quieter camping are at their peak as summer crowds thin; the Green Mountain Loop remains open into December at lower elevations but be prepared for early snow and rapidly changing conditions. Note that some big-game hunting seasons, Peak months: September, October, July, August Avoid: November, December, January, February
