Blue Mound State Park sits atop the largest hill in southern Wisconsin at 1,522 feet, offering 93 campsites beneath a mixed hardwood canopy. Two observation towers deliver panoramic views across farmland and the Wisconsin River valley. The campground has modern shower buildings, a swimming pool, splash pad, and playground that draw families in summer and on busy fall weekends.
Wooded, family‑oriented campground with a mix of accessible electric sites and more secluded cart‑in/walk‑in sites. Sites are generally wooded and described as well‑maintained.
Weather and SeasonsFall delivers the park's signature experience. Daytime temperatures run mid-50s to mid-60s°F in early fall and cool to the 30s–50s°F by late October, ideal for hiking and ridge-top sunset watching. Hardwood color peaks in early to mid-October. Trails dry quickly and bugs disappear. Weekends during peak color fill up, but weekdays remain quieter. Summer brings families to the pool and splash pad. Winter opens the trails to cross-country skiing.
Natural Features and SceneryThe campground crowns a high ridge where trails wind through mixed hardwood forest and emerge onto open vistas. From the east and west observation towers, views stretch across patchwork farmland, rolling valleys, and distant ridgelines. The forest supports diverse wildlife visible along the trail network. In fall, the hardwood canopy turns gold and crimson. The ridge-top position means exposed wind at the towers but good shade cover in the camping loops below.
