The Main Day Use Areas is located in a scenic area with steep hills, valleys, bluffs, streams and lakes. Highland Ridge Campground is located in a heavily wooded area approximately 4 miles south of I-94.
To the Day Use Area: From St. Paul, MN, 40 miles east on I-94 to Exit 24. 10 miles south on County Road B, follow signs. To Highland Ridge Campground: From St. Paul, MN, 40 miles east on I-94. From I-94 take Exit 24, 2 miles south on County Road B to County Road N. Turn east on County Road N and go 2 miles to County Road NN. 2 miles south on NN to campground entrance.

Visiting in fall delivers the most striking scenery—Eau Galle Reservoir framed by blazing hardwoods—and reliably pleasant weather for outdoor activity (daytime highs typically 45–65°F, nights dipping into the 30s–40s in September–October). Hiking, biking and horseback trails are at their peak for leaf-peeping and wildlife viewing, while fishing remains very good as fish feed aggressively before colder weather. Highland Ridge Campground offers an extensive range of amenities for campers. The campground contains 46 campsites, including 35 electric sites and 8 walk-in tent sites. Amenities include accessible flush toilets, showers, potable water, trash and recycling stations, picnic tables, fire rings, dump stations, water fill stations, and electricity hookups. For equestrian campers, additional features such as manure pits, hitching posts, horse watering stations, and vault toilets are available. The playground is maintained and upgraded. Seasonal interpretive programs and activities with park rangers enhance the camping experience.
