Fall weekenders who pack their own water and don't mind a rough access road will find six spacious sites, larch color peaking along the White River, and almost no competition for spots that cost nothing.
Summer visits come with thick mosquito swarms right off the river, and the sites have had recurring issues with trash and broken glass in fire pits, so if cleanliness and maintained facilities matter, this first-come free camp will disappoint.

Fall delivers the best conditions. Daytime temperatures run 50–70°F, nights drop to 25–40°F, and the larch color peaks along the White River corridor. Mosquitoes thin out compared to summer and trails dry up from spring mud. Crowds drop off as Lake Wenatchee quiets down. Late summer can bring wildfire smoke. Winter sees snow and freezing temps but the campground stays accessible for hardy campers. Spring and summer are warm enough for river dips, though bug spray becomes essential.
Fall described as best: larch turns gold, pleasant temps (50–70°F days), and fewer mosquitoes.
Grasshopper Meadows Campground is located along the scenic White River, providing river access and a tranquil environment. Restrooms are available, but potable water is not provided on-site, requiring campers to bring their own water or treat water from the river.
