The Nashville District U.S. Army Corps of Engineers welcomes you to J. Percy Priest Lake. The lake provides a variety of outdoor recreational opportunities for millions of visitors each year. Because of the temperate climate and relatively long recreation season, visitors have numerous activities from which to choose, including: fishing, hunting, camping, picnicking, boating, canoeing, hiking, horseback riding, and others. Because of the lake's proximity to Nashville (15 minutes from downtown) lakeside recreation can fit nicely into your other vacation plans.

Best season: summer. Summer offers warm, water-friendly weather (daytime highs typically 80–95°F, nights 65–75°F) and the fullest range of lake activities — boating, swimming, and peak fishing — with long daylight for sunset cruises on J. Percy Priest Lake. The campground is fully open May 1 through September 29, and summer is when boat ramps, fishing, and shoreline recreation are at their best. Expect higher weekend crowds and humidity, so plan weekday visits or early/late-day outings to avoid the busiest times. Peak months: July, June, August, September Avoid: October, November, December, January
Open May–Sept; summer is peak for boating, fishing and lake activities despite humidity/insects.

Poole Knobs Campground offers a variety of facilities and features aimed at providing a comfortable camping experience. It has 87 shady and spacious campsites along with one larger group camping site. Amenities include drinking water, a dump station, flush toilets, and hot showers. A boat ramp is also available, granting easy access to the lake. However, reviews highlight issues such as steep and uneven campsites, and bathrooms being a far walking distance from some sites. "The scenery was beautiful," noted one reviewer, "but this is not a campground we would return to due to the bathroom's inconvenient location."
