Best Time to Camp at Long Hunter State Park

Fall offers the best combination of comfortable weather and spectacular scenery. Mid-October typically delivers peak color with daytime highs in the mid-50s to mid-70s and crisp mornings ideal for hiking. Trails and bluff overlooks show vivid fall foliage while Couchville Lake still supports paddling and late-season fishing. Weekends during peak leaf season can be busier, but weekdays remain pleasantly quiet. The campground stays open year-round, though the 6-mile hike requires daylight. Rangers issue last permits 2-3 hours before sunset, and night hiking is not allowed.
