No reservations means no guarantees on a peak-foliage weekend, and RVs over 25 feet have limited options. Alcohol is prohibited, sites across Route 305 get foot traffic from other campers, and bathhouse maintenance gets mixed marks.

Fall is the standout season here. Crisp days in the 50s–60s°F and nights in the 30s–40s make for comfortable hiking and photography, with brilliant foliage across the mountains. Peak foliage weekends get busy, but midweek is quieter. Be aware that parts of the surrounding state forest see hunting activity in late October and November. Summer brings warm swimming weather and refreshing mountain rains that keep the forest lush. Winter transforms the area into cross-country skiing terrain. Spring delivers wildflowers and moderate temperatures for hiking.
