Spinreel Sand Camping is a primitive dispersed campground in the Oregon Dunes National Recreation Area, popular for families and groups who want to ride ATVs and ORVs directly from camp. Sites are numbered posts scattered across the sand dunes, each accommodating up to 5 vehicles and 20 people. The campground sits near Reedsport at 49 feet elevation, with dune access, beach trails, and the Tenmile River nearby. You'll camp on sand within 150 feet of your site marker. Come self-sufficient.
Sand campsites located directly on the sand within the Oregon Dunes National Recreation Area; sites are only accessible by 4x4 vehicles on soft sand and are primitive in nature.
Weather and SeasonsBest season: summer. Summer offers the most reliable weather and longest daylight for exploring the dunes and hiking the coastal edges—expect cool, sunny days with highs typically in the mid-50s to mid-60s °F (13–19°C) and light nights in the 40s–50s °F (5–12°C). Dune driving, long beach walks, and wildlife viewing (shorebirds, seals offshore) are at their peak, and vegetation on dune edges is at its fullest. Summers are busier—weekends and holidays can be crowded—so visit midweek for the quietest experience.
Peak months: July, August, September, June

Natural Features and SceneryThe campground sits on open sand dunes that roll for miles toward the Pacific. Golden dune peaks give way to coastal forest on the inland edges, and the ocean roars just beyond the sand. Freshwater ponds appear in low spots between dunes. The landscape shifts constantly with wind and weather, creating a raw, changeable terrain. Offshore you can spot seals, and shorebirds work the tide line. Vegetation on the dune edges is fullest in summer. At night there's little light pollution for stargazing.
