The lake and its shoreline set in the gently rolling hills of the Willamette Valley, is used for boating, swimming, water skiing, fishing, picnicking and camping. The Cottage Grove Dam, completed in 1942, stores up to 33,000 acre-feet of water and provides valuable flood control as well as irrigation, recreation and improved navigation downstream. The area is also managed to provide habitat for a wide variety of wildlife species, including waterfowl, blacktail deer, upland game birds, songbirds, bald eagles, osprey and many other species.

Best season: spring. Spring offers the best balance of mild weather, active wildlife, and low crowds — daytime highs are usually 55–70°F (13–21°C) from mid‑May into June with cool evenings. Wildflowers and fresh green meadows around Cottage Grove Lake are at their peak, trails are firm (less mud than early spring) and fishing and wildlife viewing are excellent as fish and birds are active after winter. You’ll avoid the peak summer crowds and fire‑season restrictions while still enjoying boating, swimming in the lake Peak months: May, June, July, September Avoid: October, November, December, January

Pine Meadows Campground offers a variety of amenities that cater to diverse camping needs. The campground includes nearly 100 campsites equipped with fire rings and picnic tables, with several sites offering lakefront views. Additional facilities include flush toilets, showers, a dump station, a children's play area, and a swim area. Primitive sites A-O, which are located adjacent to the main campground, have limited amenities and do not feature flush toilets or showers.
