Large trailers will have trouble on the narrow roads, and site 52's electric hookup comes with navigation headaches. The swim area can close without notice due to lifeguard shortages, so families banking on it should have a backup plan.

Fall is the sweet spot. Daytime highs in the 50s and 60s, nights in the 30s and 40s. The hardwood color peaks in October, bug pressure drops off, and lower water levels reveal more of the creek's structure. Crowds pick up on peak foliage weekends but stay moderate otherwise. Winter hits hard. Temperatures can drop to 9°F, transforming the gorge into a snow-covered canyon for those who don't mind the cold. Summer reaches comfortable highs around 78°F, good for swimming and hiking, though biting flies show up and reviewers recommend bug spray.
Fall is described as the 'sweet spot' with peak hardwood color, cooler temps and fewer bugs.
