No water source and no restrooms on site are real barriers. Holiday weekends draw enough locals that the single open site loses its solitude fast. Comfort campers won't find anything to work with here.

Summer brings the most reliable conditions. Days warm into the 60s and 80s, while nights drop into the 30s and 50s at this elevation. Roads are typically passable from mid-May through October once snowmelt clears the access routes. Afternoon thunderstorms roll through regularly in summer. Crowds stay light compared to developed campgrounds, though weekends and holidays see noticeable use from locals. Spring and fall offer cooler temperatures but less predictable access.
Summer offers most reliable conditions; roads typically passable mid‑May to Oct.
The San Juan Dispersed Campground has a minimalistic setup with basic amenities. There are picnic tables available for use, and the site allows the use of horse/pack animals. However, there are no restroom facilities and no potable water available at the site.
