Grand Canyon National Park, in Northern Arizona, encompasses 278 miles (447 km) of the Colorado River and adjacent uplands. South Rim: Open all year, is located 60 miles north of Williams, Arizona (via route 64 from Interstate 40) and 80 miles northwest of Flagstaff (via route 180). Grand Canyon lies entirely within the state of Arizona. North Rim: Open for the season between June 2 and October 15, 2023. The North Rim is located 30 miles south of Jacob Lake on Highway 67; the actual rim of the canyon is an additional 14 miles south. Jacob Lake, AZ is located in northern Arizona on Highway 89A, not far from the Utah border.

Fall offers the best balance of mild daytime temperatures (typically 55–75°F), crisp, clear skies for canyon visibility, and significantly lighter crowds than midsummer—perfect for long rim hikes, photography at golden hour, and wildlife viewing. Daytime warmth makes trails comfortable while cool nights (often 25–40°F) are ideal for campfires and star‑gazing. All campsites are dry sites. No utility, water, or sewer hook-ups are available. Each site does have a campfire grill for fires and cooking use and a picnic table. There are two water faucets located within the campground. There are men's, women's, and accessible restrooms in the campground. The restrooms have flushing toilets and sinks (no hot water). Desert View has no showers, laundromat, or dump station.
