Natural Features and SceneryHigh Point Campground sits along **Sawmill Lake** on the forested slope of **Kittatinny Mountain**, near New Jersey’s highest point at 1,803 feet.[1][3][8] The landscape is characterized by **mixed hardwood and conifer forest**, rocky ridges, glacially carved hills, and wetlands, with many sites under tall trees but some opening directly onto the lake shore.[1][3][10] From nearby High Point Monument, visitors can enjoy a **panoramic three‑state view** across New Jersey, Pennsylvania, and New York, including the Pocono Mountains and Catskills on clear days.[8][9][10] The park includes the **Dryden Kuser Natural Area**, protecting an Atlantic white cedar bog and high‑elevation cedar forests, which add a unique, almost boreal feel unusual for New Jersey.[1][2] Numerous lakes and ponds, including Sawmill Lake and Steenykill Lake, create a scenic setting for paddling, fishing, and reflections of fall foliage.[1][3] In autumn the ridge is known for **colorful foliage** over rolling hills and farms visible from overlooks.[1][8]
