No reservations means a real gamble if you're driving more than an hour, late arrivals have found the small lot full, and November through April the water's off so you're hauling your own.

Fall delivers the best camping window. Expect daytime highs around 50–65°F and crisp nights in the 30s–40s from mid-October through November. Trails are less humid, bugs thin out, and the mixed hardwoods color up. Winter and early spring (November through March or April) mean the park shuts off drinking water, so you'll need to bring your own. Summer gets sticky and buggy. Stargazing is excellent on clear nights year-round, but cloudy stretches can obscure overlook views.
Peak season with warm days. Most facilities open. Reserve ahead.
