Lane Spring Recreation Area sits along Little Piney Creek in Missouri's Mark Twain National Forest, about 15 minutes south of Rolla. The campground features several family campsites, some on the creek, with clean vault toilets, well water, and a mix of non-electric and 50-amp electric sites. A crystal-clear spring feeds the creek, and short trails like Blossom Rock loop through the wooded property.
The site offers first-come, first-served overnight campsites including several family campsites and some waterfront campsites, plus day-use group picnic pavilions. Pavilions may be reserved for groups or used on a first-come, first-served basis when unreserved.
Weather and SeasonsBest season: spring. Spring brings cool, clear weather (typical daytime highs 55–75°F, nights 35–50°F) and the spring-fed creek running at good flow—perfect for trout fishing and wildlife viewing. Trees and understory wildflowers are coming into leaf and bloom, making hikes especially scenic while crowds are usually lighter than summer. Trails can be muddy after rains and insects increase later in the season, but overall spring offers the best combination of comfortable temperatures, active wildlife, and peak stream
Peak months: April, May, October, September

Natural Features and SceneryThe campground's namesake spring emerges cold and clear, its edges lined with watercress before the water joins Little Piney Creek. Heavy tree cover provides privacy between sites and shade at the picnic areas. Reviewers note the spring-fed creek runs clear, though swimming means bracing for very cold water. In spring, dogwood and redbud bloom through the understory. The terrain shows typical Ozark karst features. A landscape of limestone bedrock and spring-fed waterways at roughly 830 feet elevation. A stone patio overlooks the spring itself. Reaching the creek requires a short walk and some steps down from the camping area.
