Context for the broader area surrounding Round Spring, sourced from the federal Recreation.gov rec-area record.
Ozark National Scenic Riverways is the first national park area to protect a river system. The Current and Jacks Fork rivers are two of the finest floating rivers you'll find anywhere. Spring-fed, cold and clear they are a delight to canoe, swim, boat or fish. Besides these two famous rivers, the park is home to hundreds of freshwater springs, caves, trails and historic sites such as Alley Mill.
The Headquarters (Administrative Offices Only/No Visitor Center) for Ozark National Scenic Riverways is located at 404 Watercress Drive in Van Buren, Missouri. It is located at the corner of Watercress Drive and Main Street, across the street from the Van Buren Public School complex. Visitor centers are located at the Big Spring Entrance Station (3 miles south of Van Buren on MO Route 103) and Alley Spring (6 miles west of Eminence on MO Route 106).

Best season: summer. Summer offers warm, reliably sunny weather (daytime highs generally in the mid-80s to low-90s°F, nighttime lows in the mid-60s) and peak river conditions for swimming, canoeing, tubing and paddling on the Current River. Water temperatures are pleasant and spring-fed spots stay cool, so boating and river play are at their best while trails are fully accessible for hiking and biking. Expect higher weekend crowds—especially in June–August—but also full services (flush toilets, seasonal hot showers) Peak months: June, July, August, September
Peak season for swimming, tubing, ranger programs and warm daytime river recreation.
