Boze Mill Float Camp, Mark Twain National Forest, MO
Float anglers chasing smallmouth bass and rainbow trout will find this place hard to beat in spring, when river flows are up and crowds haven't arrived yet. Canoe rentals are a short distance away, and the camp is reachable directly by water.
No potable water on-site means hauling everything in, and current flooding has left tree and trail damage. Anyone expecting a drive-up car camping experience will also be surprised: the access trail is not accessible, and the camp is best approached by boat or foot.

Spring offers the best float and fishing conditions, with temperatures from the low 50s to mid-70s°F and higher river flows. Wildflowers bloom and songbirds migrate through. Summer gets humid and hot, reaching 91°F, but the spring-fed river stays cold. Winter drops to 30-54°F. Good for hiking, less ideal for paddling. Crowds are lighter in spring than summer weekends.
“Spring offers the best float and fishing conditions… wildflowers and migration noted.”
Boze Mill Float Camp offers primitive dispersed camping with a centrally located vault toilet. There are three designated sites, each equipped with a lantern post, picnic table, and fire ring. Potable water is not available on-site. "Dispersed camping means there are no toilets, no structures, no trash cans, no treated water, and no fire grates," according to the official source. Travelers can access the campground by walking from a parking area along County Road 152 or directly from the Eleven Point River. The campground features historical elements like the 1880s turbine and Lucas Boze grist mill's hand-layered rock wall.
