Late September through early October delivers the park's signature draw: peak hardwood color paired with crisp days (45–70°F) and cool nights (30–45°F). Insect pressure drops, crowds thin compared to midsummer, and the rolling hills make for comfortable hiking and photography. Multiple reviewers recommend early to mid-October, though exact peak timing shifts year to year and some visitors report finding leaves already past prime or disappointing in certain seasons. Summer brings the warmest swimming and boating on Lake Lida, abundant wildflowers, and active wildlife, but also heavier use near the playground-adjacent sites. Spring offers fewer crowds and emerging wildflowers, though trails may be wetter. The campground stays open year-round, but winter sees very light use; skiers and snowshoers use other parts of the park.
Signature draw: 'peak hardwood color' in October with many return visitors and strong review signals.
