Zuya Group Center sits on a wooded hillside overlooking Lake Shetek in southwestern Minnesota's largest lake park. The center accommodates groups in three bunkhouse cabins (each sleeping roughly 24), a recreation hall with additional bunks, and a central dining hall. The complex operates mid-May through late September and requires group reservation.
Weather and SeasonsSummer offers reliably warm, sunny weather (daytime highs typically 75–90°F, nights 55–65°F) and the fullest range of lake-based activities: swimming, boating, fishing, and evening naturalist programs. The oak-forested hillside provides plenty of shade for group camping and campfires, and long daylight hours make it easy to fit hikes, paddling, and sunset walks into a day. Expect moderate crowds on weekends and holidays, but weekday stays are pleasantly quiet. Late spring and early fall bring fewer bugs and good hiking conditions, though swimming is less appealing.
Natural Features and SceneryAn old-growth oak canopy shades the hillside grounds, with filtered views of Lake Shetek through the branches. Grassy clearings between the bunkhouses provide space for group games and outdoor gatherings. The council ring fire circle faces the lake. Beyond the immediate complex, the park mixes prairie, wetlands, and oak savanna, with causeways linking small islands and a natural sand beach along the shore. The lake itself stretches across open water and quiet bays suited for paddling and fishing.
