No reservations and no hookups rule this out for anyone needing guaranteed power or a shower. Summer biting flies are serious enough that lightweight campers who skipped the bug spray often regret it.

Summer is peak season. Daytime highs settle into the mid-70s to mid-80s °F, nights cool to the 50s and 60s. The lake warms enough for swimming, and paddling is best in calm morning conditions. Weekends fill up fast. Arrive early. Biting flies and mosquitoes can be aggressive, so bring repellent. Fall brings color and fewer crowds, though hunters use the surrounding state forest. Winter access is difficult; the dirt forest roads get rough.
