Go if

Paddlers, hikers, and fall foliage chasers who can book a weekday or snag an early weekend reservation. The river trail, boat ramp, and brilliant October hardwoods are the real draw, and the bathhouses are consistently clean.

Skip if

Big rigs and trailers will fight the narrow roads and root-buckled sites. Weekend nights can get rowdy with generator noise and loud guests, so if quiet evenings are non-negotiable, stick to mid-week or shoulder-season visits.
